10 Jul Camping & Cast Iron Cooking
I’ve been living in the city now for several years and don’t always get the opportunity to step away from the hustle and bustle. I did grow up in a small town near the beach and try to head down that way when I get the chance but even then I’m usually greeted with summer beach traffic.
Growing up, my family would go camping all the time. I know, it doesn’t sound all that glamorous but honestly camping is one of my favorite things to do. It’s my one chance to really step away from the chaos and noise to just enjoy the peace, quiet, and simplicity. Recently, my family and I packed up and headed to Oak Creek Campground in Pennsylvania for some rest and relaxation.
My brother and I also picked up a cool new book for my dad about cast iron cooking and we definitely put it to good use on our trip. My dad has this large cast iron dutch oven that we braised short ribs in for 6 hours! I was also happy that I was able to grill up paninis because grilling is not something I get the chance to do often. For dessert, I put together a cute smores bar for my family. I’ll be making a separate post with the s’mores photos soon so be on the look out!
